Benefits

By enhancing the feminine appeal of the bustline with breast augmentation, patients often experience a significant increase in self-confidence and fulfillment.

As a result of this hugely and consistently popular procedure, patients find that clothing fits better. This benefit is especially true for patients with substantial breast asymmetry who struggle to find bras that fit properly, as one breast may be a different cup size than the other. At The Clinic for Plastic Surgery in Houston breast augmentation can effectively correct this common problem, along with concerns about the size and overall appearance of the breasts in relation to the body, for a beautifully proportionate and feminine figure. We offer silicone, saline, and anatomical breast implants to accommodate each individual’s aesthetic and textural preferences.

Augmentation vs Implants

Breast augmentation and breast implants are often used interchangeably. However, artificial implants are not the only option for breast augmentation surgery. While many women choose silicone or saline implants, fat transfer can also be utilized for breast augmentation to provide fuller, more substantial breasts, that look and feel natural.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

This method uses fat deposits from another part of the body to augment the breasts. Liposuction is performed on an area such as the thighs or buttocks to extract fat cells, which are then transferred to the breasts via injection. The result is a natural breast appearance, no artificial materials in the body, and little to no scarring.

Types of Breast Implants

The Clinic for Plastic Surgery offers a full line of breast implant options. We are a safe and respected practice that is celebrated throughout Texas as one of the best in the Houston area. Read our glowing reviews to see stories from our many satisfied patients.

Silicone

Silicone implants are our most popular option. Many women prefer silicone because of its natural look and realistic responsiveness. Silicone implants are widely used and completely safe. They offer a diverse range of size and shape options. The type of implant that is best for you depends on your desired cosmetic result, lifestyle and anatomy.

Saline

Saline implants offer an intriguing alternative to silicone. They are a popular choice for women seeking the unique benefits of this augmentation option. Saline refers to a sterile saltwater solution inside the silicone shells of the implants. Essentially, the size of your breasts will depend on the amount of saline inside the implant. Because saline is a liquid filler, our doctors can insert your implant shells first and then fill them after they have already been positioned. Ultimately, this method will result in a smaller scar. We should also note that your body is able to absorb saline solution harmlessly in the unlikely event of a leak or rupture.

Anatomical Implants

Anatomical implants fall under the category of silicone implants. Because anatomical, or “teardrop,” implants mimic the natural slope of a woman’s breast, breast augmentation candidates who have small breasts may be interested in anatomically shaped breast implants. The shape of the anatomical breast implant allows women without much existing breast tissue to achieve a natural and tapered breast slope.

Candidates

An ideal candidate for breast augmentation is a woman who wants to have a choice in her own aesthetic future. She realizes that she has the power to change how she looks. Ideal candidates are ready to investigate their full potential.

Implant Size

When deciding on implant size, four factors should be considered: frame size, desired cup size, profile type, and lifestyle.

Frame size: This refers to the width of your chest wall; if you have a small frame, a high profile may be ideal because this will provide more projection and fullness in the upper pole of the breast.

Desired cup size: For every cup size you wish to go up, add on 250 ccs.

Profile type: Implants come in low, moderate, or high profiles depending on how much projection you want from your breasts.

Lifestyle: If you are very active or plan on having children in the near future, then a smaller implant may be best as it will move less with activity and won’t interfere with breastfeeding.

Implant Placement

When considering breast implants, it is important to understand the different placement methods available. The three main types of breast implant placement are subglandular, subfascial, and submuscular. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, which should be discussed with your plastic surgeon prior to making a decision.

Subglandular placement is when the implant is placed directly behind the breast tissue but in front of the chest muscle (pectoralis major). This method offers a more natural look and feel, as well as quicker recovery time since no muscles need to be cut or stretched during surgery. However, this method may not provide as much support for larger implants and can lead to visible rippling or wrinkling of the skin over time.

Subfascial placement is when the implant is placed between the chest muscle (pectoralis major) and its covering fascia layer. This method supports larger implants while still providing a natural look and feel. It also requires less recovery time than submuscular placement, as there is no cutting or stretching of the muscle involved.

Submuscular placement is when the implant is placed beneath both layers of the chest muscle (pectoralis major). This method offers maximum support for larger implants while providing a natural look. However, it does require more recovery time since the muscle needs to be cut or stretched during surgery.

When considering breast implant placement, it is important to discuss all of your options with our team. Then, we can go over which ones can benefit you and your goals.

Preparation & Procedure

When you decide to undergo a breast augmentation in Houston TX, you will need to select the size and shape of your new chest. You also must decide if you want saline or silicone breast implants. All of these decisions will have a substantial impact on your final look. It’s important to choose carefully, taking into account your lifestyle, body structure and cosmetic goals. During your initial consultation, our doctors will help you determine which breast implants are in your best interest. They will help you create the beautiful, voluminous and natural chest you want.

To begin your breast augmentation, your attending physician will first administer general anesthesia, which will ensure that you are completely asleep throughout the procedure. From there, he or she will place strategic incisions around the areola, within the armpit or along the lower breast crease.

As one of the top providers of breast augmentations that Houston has to offer, our team will take special care to ensure the resulting scars are as imperceptible as possible.

From there, we will create a breast pocket within your chest. If you choose a submuscular placement, the pocket will be created beneath the pectoral muscle. If you choose a subglandular placement, the pocket will be placed in front of the pectoral muscle, covered by your natural breast tissue. Once the pocket has been created, we will insert your chosen breast implant. We will then close the incisions, place gauze around the surgical site and send you home to begin the healing process.

How Are Breast Implants Held in Place?

Depending on where your breast implant is placed, our medical team may have to determine if they will require additional support. Proper support shall ensure your implants present in the most appealing fashion. Implants that are put in front of the muscle are often held in place using a special tissue called acellular dermal matrix. Over time, your body replaces this tissue with collagen. Collagen is part of the body’s natural support network.

Recovery & Results

After undergoing your breast augmentation, you should expect to stay home from work for five to seven days to give yourself ample time to heal. During this period, it’s common to experience some swelling, bruising and pain, however, it will be manageable with the prescribed medication.

Within about a week, you’ll need to return to our office to have your sutures removed. During that appointment, our medical team will evaluate your progress and answer any questions you may have. At around this time, you should be able to resume most of your activities. You may return to your normal daily routine within three weeks.

Do Breast Implants Feel Different Real Breasts?

Silicone and saline implants have natural responsiveness. Many women report that silicone feels the most natural. However, it is important to remember that every breast, like every person, is unique and beautiful. The size and shape of your implants will also impact their tactile experience. Many women report that their implants feel different than their natural breasts. Some women say their implants have enhanced their sexual experiences with their lucky partners.

Complementary Procedures: Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A Breast Lift can correct chronic sagging, a condition known as breast ptosis. While breast augmentation is ideal for issues of size and responsiveness, implants will do little to address severe sagging without the additional boost of a breast lift. Mastopexy is a contouring procedure that shapes the topography of the chest so that it can appear bubblier, perkier and more youthful. we remove lax, excess and overstretched skin. He pulls the remaining tissue up and back so that the breasts present more appealingly.

Implant Incisions

Breast implant incisions are an important part of the breast augmentation process. Depending on your individual needs and preferences, there are four different types of incisions that can be used: transaxillary, inframammary, areolar, and trans-umbilical breast augmentation (TUBA).

The transaxillary incision is placed in the armpit area. This method is ideal for those who want to minimize scarring, as the incision site is hidden in the natural crease of the armpit. The surgeon will use an endoscope to insert the implant through this incision, allowing for greater precision during surgery.

The inframammary incision is located in the fold underneath the breast and is often considered to be one of the most popular methods for breast augmentation. This method offers a high degree of accuracy when placing implants and results in minimal scarring due to its location.

The areolar incision involves making a semi-circle around the lower half of the nipple. This method provides accuracy when placing implants but can lead to more visible scarring due to its location near the nipple.

Trans-umbilical breast augmentation (TUBA) involves making an incision around your belly button. This method allows for precise placement of implants with minimal scarring as it hides any evidence of surgery within your navel area.

Considerations

This treatment can be performed for a variety of reasons, including restoring volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, achieving a more proportionate figure, or simply to enhance self-confidence and body image. Breast augmentation is also used to correct asymmetrical breasts, which can cause physical discomfort and impact self-esteem. Benefits include the ability to:

  • Enhance breast size and shape
  • Restore deflated breasts that have lost volume
  • Address uneven, asymmetrical breasts
  • Customized breast appearance

FAQ

Is breast augmentation painful?

You will not feel any pain during your procedure because of the effects of the anesthesia. During your recovery, your surgical site will be tender to the touch. Your doctor will prescribe pain medication to manage any discomfort. After a week or two of healing, you can switch to ibuprofen tablets to dull any sharp pains.

What are some related procedures?

The most commonly complementary procedure performed with breast augmentation is a breast lift. For patients with significant excess skin that contributes to breast sagging, a breast lift can enhance your breast augmentation by lifting the breasts’ position on the chest wall for a more youthful look.

What if my desired look changes over time?

No worries! While your breast augmentation results can last for years or even over a decade in some cases, we offer breast augmentation revision to allow your aesthetic to evolve with your preferences.
