What is SkinPen?
SkinPen is a minimally-invasive micro-needling procedure. It works by microscopically puncturing the target area, stimulating your body’s natural healing response to produce fresh collagen and elastin. As your skin heals, it appears dramatically smoother and more youthful, and your imperfections become less visible.
SkinPen is capable of treating a variety of the most common surface skin imperfections our clients experience, including:
- Fine lines
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Large pores
SkinPen is rapidly becoming one of the most popular treatments we offer at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery, and with good reason. It’s an innovative and highly effective treatment that comes with a host of appealing benefits, including:
- A quick in-office treatment
- Very minimal downtime and virtually no side effects
- Safe enough to use on all skin types
An overview of the SkinPen treatment
Your SkinPen treatment will be performed entirely in Dr. Sukkar’s soothing Houston office. During your appointment, you’ll sit comfortably in a reclining treatment chair while an aethetician cleanses your face and applies a numbing cream to ensure your comfort. He will then apply a vitamin C & E serum to your skin, before moving the SkinPen over the treatment area to create tiny wounds. You can expect the entire procedure to last approximately 30 minutes.
Immediately after your SkinPen procedure, you will experience a mild sunburn sensation, with minor redness, tenderness and swelling. To minimize these effects and soothe the skin, you’ll be directed to apply a special calming cream to the area over the next few days. Beyond these effects, you won’t experience any significant downtime, and the redness should completely disappear by the third day.
You’ll be able to resume your normal daily activities immediately after your appointment, and you can begin concealing any redness with makeup after the second day. In a few days, you’ll start to see a visible improvement in the appearance of your skin, and your results will continue to progress over the following weeks.
FAQ’s about SkinPen
How many treatments will I need?
Most of our Houston patients receive three treatments spaced about four weeks apart for optimal results, however individuals with more severe signs of aging and cosmetic imperfections may require more appointments. During your initial consultation, Dr. Sukkar and his team at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery will help you determine how many SkinPen treatments you need.
Who is a candidate for SkinPen?
Because it’s such a gentle and effective treatment, SkinPen can be used safely on all skin colors and types. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women, because the healing process that is stimulated by the treatment would require vitamins and nutrients that would otherwise be used to support her pregnancy.
Is there any special aftercare?
To maintain your beautiful new complexion, it is recommended that you continue to take care of your skin moving forward, preferably with a custom regimen provided by our aestheticians’.
If you’re ready to explore your non-invasive rejuvenation options, we invite you to schedule a consultation at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery today. During your private meeting in our Houston office, we will carefully assess the cosmetic imperfections you’d most like to address, before creating a custom treatment plan designed to sculpt the exquisite appearance you deserve.
