What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian Butt Lift Houston, TX

Formally known as a gluteoplasty, a Brazilian butt lift is a combination of liposuction and plastic surgery for butt enhancement. Liposuction is a necessary part of the procedure. A BBL is permanent. However, if you gain or lose weight, that gain or loss may be reflected in your buttocks.

Benefits

Here are some of the benefits you can expect from receiving a Brazilian butt lift:

  • Your body appears more proportionate.
  • You’ll look more attractive in certain clothes.
  • Without clothes, your butt enhancement looks natural, not like you’ve had something “done.”
  • You feel sexier and more confident.
  • Because BBL requires fat removal from other areas, you could also end up with a slimmer abdomen, thighs, or hips. Many women decide to eradicate love handles with a BBL.
  • While a Brazilian butt lift does not get rid of cellulite, it does make this unsightly dimpling less noticeable.
  • Since your own fat is used, there is no risk of rupture or displacement. That can happen with alternative procedures, in which foreign objects are placed within the buttocks for enhancement.

Ideal Candidates

Good candidates for a Brazilian butt lift are physically healthy and realistic about the results. Smokers should quit before undergoing the procedure.

Ideally, BBL candidates are of normal weight. Slightly overweight is not an issue. In fact, it may prove an asset. Patients who are considerably overweight may have to lose excess weight before undergoing the procedure. Candidates must have sufficient fat for a transfer, so very thin people may consider an alternative procedure. These alternatives include injectable fillers or silicone implants. However, a BBL produces better results than the alternatives. Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Sam Sukkar suctions several pounds of fat out of the body. Some thin patients may try to gain weight to produce sufficient fat. Pregnant or nursing women should wait until after childbirth or weaning to undergo a BBL. Those with cardiovascular disease or neurological disorders may not be good BBL candidates. If the size or shape of your buttocks bothers you or your butt is asymmetrical, a Brazilian butt lift can make you look and feel better.

Procedure

Brazilian Butt Lift BBL Procedure

You’ll receive anesthesia prior to the procedure. With liposuction, the surgeon removes fat from other parts of your body. The fat removed may be from the stomach, hips, or thighs and is determined beforehand. Liposuction is performed by making small incisions in the skin and suctioning out fat using a thin metal instrument called a cannula.

The procedure lasts between four and five hours.

The fat goes through a purifying process before injection into the buttocks. Several incisions are made into the buttocks for the fat transfers. These incisions are minor and are sutured closed after the fat transfer is finished. Although small scars result from the incisions, they are barely visible.

Benefits

Feel confident and sexy with natural-looking, contoured buttocks. Our Brazilian butt lift patients enjoy benefits like:

  • Better body proportion and balance
  • Certain styles of clothes are more flattering
  • Natural appearance in swimwear or lingerie, not overdone or artificial
  • Lose unwanted fat in other areas through fat transfer
  • No foreign material for less chance of complications

Ideal Candidate

Patients seeking to enhance the size of their butt or create more symmetry can see great improvement with this procedure. Ideal candidates for BBL should be in generally good health, fairly close to their goal weight, and be non-smokers. Patients who have certain cardiovascular or neurological conditions may not be great candidates and should discuss this with their surgeon. If you’d like to find out if you’re a good candidate for our Brazilian butt lift Houston board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Sam Sukkar, can address that and answer any questions you have during your intial consultation.

Procedure Details

This surgery is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about four to five hours. First, liposuction is performed on the designated area to remove fat which then goes through a process to purify and refine it. Then, the fat is injected into the buttocks through tiny incisions to create volume and proportion. These incisions will be sutured, but they are discreet and will be virtually invisible once healed.

Recovery

After a Brazilian butt lift, the treatment area is temporarily bruised and swollen. Expect to wear a compression garment for about six weeks post-procedure. During recovery, avoid pools and hot tubs. Wear loose-fitting clothing. You should feel back to normal in about four weeks.

Results

BBL results are not immediate. However, you should experience 80 percent of your butt lift results after about three months. Full results are apparent within one year.

FAQs

Will it hurt?

Patients will feel sore after a BBL, but it is not extremely painful. The doctor will prescribe pain-relieving medications for the initial period after the procedure. Over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or naproxen should relieve discomfort.

What are the risks?

Possible complications after a BBL include tissue death or fat necrosis. You might feel a small lump under the skin. The lump is harmless.

As with any procedure, there is always the small risk of infection. By following your doctor’s instructions after the procedure, this risk is further minimized.

When can I sit again after a Brazilian Butt Lift?

After a BBL, patients should keep any pressure off their buttocks for two to four weeks. That includes not just sitting, but also lying on the buttocks.

Does my insurance cover it?

Because a Brazilian butt lift is a cosmetic procedure, insurance does not cover it.

What’s the difference between a BBL & butt implants?

The main difference between the two is that a BBL uses your own fat for butt enhancement, while Butt implants are made of silicone. Complications are far more common with butt implants.

When can I return to work or exercise after a Brazilian butt lift?

Since you cannot sit for at least two weeks after a BBL, it will take at least that long before you can return to work. You cannot resume exercising for six weeks or until cleared by your doctor.

Will I have loose skin after a BBL?

If you already have loose skin on your buttocks, a BBL will not tighten it. However, you can opt for body contouring procedures performed in conjunction with your BBL.

How much does a Brazilian Butt Lift cost?

Every patient’s goals and expectations for a Brazilian butt lift are personal. Your provider will discuss BBL costs with you after an evaluation. Payment plans are available.
