HAIR REPLACEMENT
Hair restoration involves harvesting healthy hair follicles from areas where the hair is thriving – and not genetically-programmed for balding – the back of the head. The healthy follicles are then transplanted to fill in thinning or balding areas. One process used for those who want to restore balding areas is called follicular unit transplant (FUT). This procedure involves transferring healthy follicles from a strip surgically removed from the back of the scalp. The incision is closed with sutures. The hair follicles are then harvested and implanted into the thinning area. This procedure is often the only option for filling in areas where there are no healthy, producing hair follicles.
FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT
In Follicular Unit Extraction, or an FUE Transplant, the back of the head is shaved and single follicles are then harvested. This procedure has an advantage – no linear scar is left as occurs with FUT. These single follicles are then grafted into a new location to create new hair growth in areas in thinning areas or to restore a receding hairline. Depending on the size of the area requiring restoration, hair transplant procedures typically require between 4 and 8 hours to complete.
PRP FOR HAIR LOSS
PRP (platelet rich plasma) is an advanced therapy to treat hair loss with growth factors extracted from your own blood. A regenerative process, injecting PRP into the scalp can trigger existing follicles to once again begin producing thick, healthy strands of hair. In this three-step procedure, the patient’s own blood is extracted in a standard blood draw and then placed into a centrifuge.
